Don't Mock My Pro Con List

Just got back from another family-fun-filled trip to Utah. I love to visit; it's nostalgia meets family reunion with a little bit of Arizona stinks, but I love it there and would never what to live here again, but Utah’s a huge part of my childhood and it’s not 120°F like home is right now all wrapped into one.

I’ve concocted a Utah Pro-Con list to help me sort out my feelings. Feel free to add one or two of your own if you’d like!

Pros

  • Dunford Donuts
  • Glaus Bakery
  • 5 Guys burgers
  • Rich’s Asiago cheese Bagels
  • Those bread twist things at the Pizza Factory
  • Real Grass
  • Fireworks are legal
  • Tai Pan Trading
  • The fact that it gets below 80°F at night
  • Snelgroves Burnt Almond Fudge Ice cream (I know it’s out of commission, but still, I heart it)
  • A Billion Temples so close in proximity
  • Wheeler Farm
  • Alta Canyon Pool
  • Sno-Shack at the Smith's parking lot on Highland Drive
  • Family, Family, Family!
  • University of Utah
  • Scenic Mountains
  • Legitimate summers where you can play kick-the-can with the neighborhood kids until 10pm
  • You can walk on the pavement without fear of imminent charring of feet

Cons

  • BYU
  • Freeway construction, which leads to unnecessary traffic! Everywhere!
  • BYU
  • Hills! Everywhere! My ears never stop popping and I could never do a standard transmission there.
  • Crazy numbers for street names and no one ever says the full number (they say "90th South", but they actually mean 9000 south...I think, or maybe they mean 90000 south...I never know!)
  • BYU
  • Mormons! Everywhere! (J/K)
  • BYU
  • An over abundance of traffic lights
  • BYU
  • Real Winters!
  • No Oregano's
  • BYU
  • It’s still Utah
  • My house lives in Arizona, along with my husband

I also just got back from Utah. Here are a few additions:

Pro: Pace's Dairy Ann, Cool evening walks, USU Aggies, Aggie Ice Cream, Bear Lake berries. REAL 4th of July celebrations, Mom's home made ice cream, family.

Con: BYU!!,Everyone thinks it's perfect swimming weather at 70 degrees!, traffic, a little too much family at times, did I mention "the cougars".

Pros: Easy access to multiple ski resorts without having to drive three hours for a crappy ski resort, Hires Big H, nice down-town, urban city mixed well with mountains.

Hate to burst your bubble about the pro's of Utah..... of which there are many, BUT, only crappy fireworks are allowed in Utah. The good ones, the ones that go higher than 3 feet, are illegal. That still didn't stop all of our neighbors at Bear Lake from stopping in Evanston, Wyoming on their way up to Bear Lake and picking up real fireworks. Which they shot off with abandon on the 4th and 24th. Only when the fire department that was hovering on the street watching for illegal firecrackers busted the next door neighbors for their fine patriotic display of pyrotechnics did it stop. Bummer!
